From being released on OTT platforms with little or no promotion to being pulled within two days of its release, the film has sparked a huge debate online among viewers as to why it has been stalled again. Now, other celebrities are also weighing in on the issue, which also includes Anurag Basu. In a post on social media, he denounced the film’s removal from the streaming platform and even compared the situation to another international film director who had the same fate.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Basu shared his own thoughts on ‘Satluj’ and joined the ongoing debate surrounding the film’s release and its removal from streaming platforms.He compared Dosanjh’s film to ‘Jafar Panahi‘, an Iranian director who faced a similar fate in his native country. He wrote: “#Satluj I never thought a day would come when Honey Trehan would face what Jafar Panahi would face in Iran.” He compared the plight of Honey Trehan to that of Panahi, a well-known director in Iran, who had been out of the country promoting ‘It was just an accident’, when Tehran authorities had legally notified him. According to the BBC, he was given a 1-year prison sentence, along with a two-year travel ban and probation.
‘Satluj’ removed from OTT, asks fans to share illegal links
Just two days after its release, ‘Satluj’, which follows the life of activist Jaswant Singh Khalra as he investigates illegal cremations and his corrupt connections in Punjab during the 1990s. The film was originally titled ‘Punjab 95’ and had already been made about 3-4 years ago. However, the film had many problems for its release.The film was released on ZEE5 just 2-3 days ago, but recently the platform completely removed the project from its platform and issued a formal notice regarding the matter. His statement, which was uploaded on various social media channels, said, “The response to Satluj since its release has been truly overwhelming. We are deeply grateful to all the viewers who chose to subscribe, watch and champion the film. Your love and support has meant a lot to us and everyone who brought this story to life.“They further added that “At ZEE5, we stand strongly with Satluj and the creative vision behind it. We believe that powerful storytelling has the ability to inspire, endure and leave a lasting impact. We remain committed to championing authentic and meaningful storytelling.” However, the team also confirmed that the film will not be available for streaming in India until “further notice”.‘Satluj’ was also slated to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023, a year after it submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification; however, as concerns were raised by the Indian authorities at the time, the release was eventually cancelled.
