The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of heavy rainfall across the city on Saturday, July 4.Due to the weather, all schools and colleges in Mumbai have been told to remain closed on July 4. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also asked residents to stay indoors and come out only when necessary.

Schools and colleges were closed as a precaution

According to the IMD, Mumbai is expected to receive heavy rains along with strong winds reaching a speed of 50 to 60 km/h in the afternoon.Earlier on Saturday, the city recorded 99 mm of rain in the 24 hours that ended at 8 am. Eastern regions received 98 mm of rain, while western regions recorded 94 mm.

A high tide warning has been issued for Mumbai

The Meteorological Department has also warned of rising tides, which may cause more water in low-lying areas. A high tide of 4.26 meters is expected at 2:50 pm on Saturday, followed by another high tide of 3.60 meters at 2:52 am on Sunday. Low tide is expected at 8:56 pm Saturday and 8:22 am Sunday.

Authorities advise residents to stay indoors

Officials have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and follow weather updates. Students and parents are also advised to contact their schools and colleges for more information about classes.
