A short film who opened the first door
Basil created a short film ‘Priyamvadha Katharayano’ during this period and shared it online, tagging the filmmaker. Vineeth Sreenivasanwhom he deeply admired.As revealed by Basil Joseph in an interview with Sujith Bhakthan, the video initially went unnoticed by Vineeth. However, it finally reached the actor Hi Varghesewho found it while browsing Facebook. Impressed by the work, Aju responded positively. He said, “That’s great.” That small reaction became the first step in a chain of events that would later transform Basil’s career.
The chain reaction
After watching the short film himself, Aju Varghese encouraged Vineeth Sreenivasan to check it out. Vineeth later saw the project and appreciated Basil’s effort. When Basil expressed interest in working as an assistant director, Vineeth responded cautiously. He said, “Look, I’m not doing any new movies right now.” At the time, there was no immediate opportunity, but the connection had been made.
Eight months of waiting
Basil returned to his regular job while still pursuing his dream of making movies. Several months passed without any clear direction. Then, on an ordinary day, he got a message on Facebook Messenger from Vineeth Sreenivasan. It said, “Are you still interested in helping me?” Basil later described this as a defining moment in his life, calling it “the most life-changing message of all.”
The first meeting
What followed was pure magic. A meeting in Chennai. Vineeth happened to arrive in three quarters and an i20. Basil and his friends appeared in turbans, grabbing biryani and lamb brain fry from a place on the beach. They talked about movies, dreams and possibilities. And so, starting in June, Vineeth spoke the words Basil was waiting for: “Join me. Let’s start a movie.”With that one message and that one word, “Join me,” he opened the door for Basil Joseph to the vast world of cinema.The turning point of Basil Joseph’s career makes us understand that: “Sometimes the smallest message becomes the biggest turning point in life.”
