Suniel Shetty has revealed that he almost didn’t sign ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, and the reason was the film’s ensemble cast. The veteran actor, who is now celebrating the film’s strong run at the box office, has spoken candidly about his initial doubts, his take on the ‘Tropic Thunder’ comparisons and what lies ahead for his upcoming action thriller Hitman. Why Suniel Shetty was initially skeptical
While ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ turned out to be a crowd pleaser, Suniel Shetty admitted that the scale of the project was daunting at first. He told Mid-Day, “I was skeptical about doing it at first as I wasn’t sure if you could do justice to so many actors,” referring to the film’s 30-plus-actor main cast. It was his trust in the people behind the project that influenced the decision. He said, “I knew the script was far-fetched, but since I was comfortable with my producer Firoz A Nadiadwallah and Ahmed, I said yes.“

‘Welcome to the Jungle’ has been widely compared to Ben Stiller’s 2008 Hollywood comedy ‘Tropic Thunder’, which features a film crew accidentally caught in a real jungle combat situation. Suniel Shetty, however, is not losing sleep over the parallels. He said, “Comparisons will keep coming. What makes the difference is the writing, the performances, the director’s vision and our belief that brain rotting excess cinema will also work. We are no one to judge. In the same conversation, Suniel Shetty also argued the importance of entertaining and family films along with big budget action shows like ‘Dhurandhar’. He said, “I love Aditya Dhar’s cinema. For me, entertainment is it [a movie] that appeals to children and families. The way ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ is going to the theaters speaks for itself.“
Suniel Shetty teases his role in ‘Hitman’
With ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ wrapped up, Suniel Shetty is now focusing on ‘Hitman’, an action thriller directed by Sachin Ravi where he plays the mentor of Tiger Shroff’s character. While rumors suggested that his role has gray undertones, the actor kept things close to his chest. He said: “I can’t say anything until the producer announces it. Gray is always good, but black is never.”
