Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ kicked off its box office campaign in spectacular fashion, with advance tickets for its premium Infinity Vision screenings selling out within hours of going on sale on Monday, July 20.Tickets for the next big ‘Avengers’ movie went on sale five months before its December 18 release. Several box office trackers reported that the film has already surpassed the pre-sale of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ at some points and has surpassed the ticket sales of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ in less than two hours. Following the hype surrounding the film, cinemas have even added 3am previews to reach 80% fill rates.

The early ticket release is limited to Infinity Vision auditoriums, a new Disney certification for premium large format theaters that offers enhanced screen quality, brightness and sound. The move is part of Marvel’s strategy to secure premium-format screens ahead of its theatrical clash with “Dune: Part Three,” which has reportedly secured a three-week IMAX release window.

Fans took to social media throughout the day to share screenshots of sold-out times and long virtual lines as they rushed to secure seats for the opening night and opening weekend screenings.Several fans even claimed that getting tickets for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was harder to get than recent event films such as Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘Dune: Part Three’. However, Marvel Studios has not released any official pre-sale sales figures.

Following the release of the ‘Doomsday’ trailer, fans took to social media to share their reaction to the upcoming box office showdown with ‘Dune’ on December 18.While the “Dune” film franchise, directed by Denis Villeneuve, has grossed over $1.12 billion worldwide across two films, the “Avengers” franchise is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, with over $7.8 billion worldwide across four films. ‘Doomsday’ also comes on the heels of the colossal success of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which is the franchise’s highest-grossing film, with more than $2.79 billion worldwide.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will run for approximately 165 minutes, making it one of the longest MCU films. According to reports, it is currently the second longest film, only behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which is expected to get an additional 7-minute extension for its re-release titled ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’.The film also features Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU, this time playing Doctor Doom, and serving as the first part of Marvel’s two-film conclusion to the Multiverse saga.
