Singer and music composer Anu Malik has opened up about his first professional journey and his first partnership with a veteran actress and politician Hema Malini during the movie ‘Maarg’. He noted that the project marked the beginning of a significant creative connection that would continue in later years.

Anu Malik shared in an interview with IANS that their collaboration did not end with ‘Maarg’ as they later worked together in ‘Awaargi’, a film produced by Hema Malini herself. She recalled that the experience allowed her to relate more closely to her vision as a producer while shaping the film’s musical identity.

Creative feedback from Hema Malini

Speaking about his work experience, the composer highlighted Hema Malini’s involvement during the music-making process and how her feedback influenced his work. He said, “My first association with Hema Ji was in the film ‘Maarg’. Then we did ‘Awaargi’ together, which was again produced by Hema Ji. She has inspired me a lot. She used to give constant feedback while I composed the songs.” He further mentioned that his appreciation for his work in ‘Ek Chadar Maili Si’ remained a memorable moment in his career. Malik added strong personal admiration, stating, “There will never be a person more beautiful than Hema Malini,” he concluded.

Anu Malik also spoke about her long relationship with the Deol family, describing a warm bond with Dharmendra and Sunny Deol over the years. He recalled that his association with Sunny Deol also extended to professional film collaborations. He said, “I had always enjoyed an extremely homely relationship with Dharam Ji (Dharmendra). I have been very close to Sunny (Deol). I even gave the music for his second film, ‘Sohni Mahiwal’.”Sharing deeper personal memories, Anu Malik spoke about Dharmendra’s fondness for his compositions and the casual relationship they shared. She recalled how the veteran actor appreciated both lively and melodious subjects, and how their interactions often extended beyond professional spaces. He added, “Dharam Ji was very fond of my music. In fact, I once came up with a playful number, ‘Pal Pal Na Mane Tinku Jiya’, and Dharam Ji, being very jovial himself, loved that song. He also loved my melodious numbers. He treated me like a family member, so we see each other very often.”Anu Malik’s previous full-length musical work is the romantic drama film ‘Tu Meri Poori Kahani’.
