Samantha Ruth Prabhu on cinema reducing women to spectacle
Speaking in an interview about her recent film ‘Maa Inti Bangaaram’, Samantha shared, “What attracted me to the story, I didn’t really look at it as gender-breaking or trying to make a statement. I saw it as an engaging character with real depth and she had a lot of scope to entertain and I think that’s very rare for women in cinema. Also, I think action isn’t really a show and I think it’s about time we stopped putting women in movies just for the show, just for the dance or a song or a role, just for the show.“He further added, “I think audiences have changed; they’re more open to newer stories and don’t question whether a hero is male or female anymore. They just want to be entertained; they want to be moved. If a character is written honestly and the story connects, people will embrace it and I think that’s the direction mainstream cinema is going and I’m happy to be a part of that journey.”
