Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has extended his support to students protesting in Delhi-NCR over the alleged NEET paper leak and reported student suicides related to the controversy. The ‘Indian’ actor has shared an energetic message on X (formerly Twitter), calling for urgent reforms in the education system.
Kamal Haasan calls for reforms in the education system
In his post, Kamal spoke about what he described as the growing crisis in the education system. He suggested that student voices had not received the attention they deserved.Kamal wrote: “We should have listened when a child cried. Instead, we waited until many of our children died. A system where training replaces learning, anxiety replaces curiosity and criminality replaces merit is rotten. A nation has failed when its children meet barricades and clubs instead of answers.”Apart from expressing solidarity with the students, Kamal also addressed social activist Sonam Wangchuk in his message. He appealed to Wangchuk to end his fast, saying the nation would continue to need his guidance in the coming days.He added: “@Wangchuk66, the nation will need your conscience for the journey ahead. Please finish your fast. To the children of India: You are the best of us. You have done your homework. Now is the time for the country to do its duty to you. May your dreams be forever bigger than our failures. @cockroachisback #CJPProtest.”
Tovino Thomas also condemns the alleged use of force
Earlier, Malaysian actor Tovino Thomas had also reacted to the ongoing protests. He criticized the alleged use of force against peaceful protesters and said young people demanding answers should not face repression.The ‘Lokah’ actor wrote, “Right and wrong may be relative, but this is certainly NOT the way to handle a peaceful protest. When the future generation of a nation speaks, and their voices are met with repressive force, it is the future itself that is being destroyed. It is the faith in democracy that is being eroded. What did these students do wrong? What did they do wrong to the property? Does it deserve this treatment? To all people protesting for a cause.” justly, peacefully, in any part of our country, I extend my solidarity with all my heart. The right to dissent is not a threat to democracy; in fact it is one of its foundations. And to anyone who is about to question my sense of nationalism, I know myself better than you do.
