Vikrant Massey Says ‘Mirzapur’ Had 85 Percent Men Satisfying Their Testosterones, Male Egos Amid Fans Questioning His Absence From Film: ‘Wish They Hadn’t Killed Me’ | Hindi Movie News
The highly anticipated ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ is all set to bring the beloved OTT crime saga to the big screen this September. The recently released teaser has already created quite a buzz, with fans celebrating the return of fan favorite characters like Munna Bhaiya (Divyennu) and Compounder (Abhishek Banerjee). However, fans unanimously felt the absence of Vikrant Massey in the movie While Bablu Pandit will be back in the film, now the character will be played by Jitendra Kumar instead of Vikrant. The reason behind Vikrant’s exit from one of the show’s most memorable roles has not been revealed. However, in the midst of ‘Mirzapur’ teaser release, Vikrant recently recalled fond memories of the series. The actor looked back fondly on his time in the series and admitted that he still wished Bablu’s story had continued. “I wish they hadn’t killed me,” Vikrant said with a smile during a conversation with FLO Bangalore Official. He also shared that he never imagined that either his character or the show would become such a major cultural phenomenon when he came on board.“When Mirzapur came, it was really just a bunch of enthusiastic people coming together. There were a lot of wonderful women who were a part of it as well, but mainly the show had, like, 85 percent men involved, both in front of and behind the camera. It was just a group of people who got together and said, ‘Let’s do this show of loyalty to the Entertainment Project.'” the production house to support a story rooted in heart of India at a time when such narratives were still uncommon in mainstream entertainment. “So it was just a bunch of people getting together, going out there and pandering to our testosterones, our male egos, or the patriarchy, if you could call it that.”He also recalled the overwhelming response the series received immediately after its release and how Bablu Pandit became a household name almost overnight. “I remember vividly that I was in Lucknow the day the show came out. I was shooting for a film called Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi. I was doing a 7 am to 7 pm shift. I entered the set at around 6 or 6:30 am. It wasn’t even bright yet. But when the shoot was about to go beyond chaos, off location. The director and the assistants had a little difficulty controlling the sound because we shoot in synchronized sound. And then we realized that there were at least 200-300 people outside the place because the news had spread that Bablu Bhaiya was shooting there.”Reflecting on that unforgettable moment, Vikrant said he was taken back by the scale of the audience’s love, especially since it happened a day after the show premiered. “And that happened within 24 hours. The show went on at 12 at night, and that was the next evening, so maybe after 5-6 p.m. There were people on bikes following my car. They wanted pictures with me, they wanted selfies and autographs. And that’s when we realized we’d done something good, something that people were really enjoying seeing.“
