Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ has opened to a strong response in advance bookings ahead of its theatrical release on July 23. The action drama has generated huge pre-release business across India.According to estimates reported by Sacnilk, the film has collected approximately Rs 14.94 crore in advance bookings for its opening day. Advance sales have taken place through the sale of over 6.45 lakh tickets across 8,876 scheduled shows across the country.The 2D Tamil version has emerged as the biggest grosser, earning nearly Rs 14.69 crore from over 6.30 lakh admissions. The Telugu version has generated around Rs 18.98 lakh, while the Hindi version has contributed an estimated Rs 4.77 lakh to the overall advance booking collections.

Tamil Nadu leads as Chennai registers outstanding occupancy

Among all the states, Tamil Nadu has got the best advance booking performance with approximately Rs 8.03 crore in ticket sales. Karnataka follows with nearly Rs 4.33 crore, while Kerala has contributed around Rs 1.36 crore. The film has also recorded encouraging pre-sales in Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.Regionally, Chennai has emerged as the biggest market for the film. The city alone has generated approximately Rs 2.66 crore in advance bookings while registering an impressive 82% actual occupancy across 550 shows.Other centers in Tamil Nadu and Kerala including Trichy, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode and Kollam have also witnessed healthy ticket sales ahead of the launch.In the Telugu speaking regions, Hyderabad has topped the advance booking chart with collections exceeding Rs 13 lakh. Additional contributions have come from Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Kakinada and several other centres.

H. Vinoth responds to the political discussions surrounding the film

Director H. Vinoth has clarified that ‘Jana Nayagan’ is not intended to be a criticism of any individual or political party.Speaking to India Today about the film, he said, “There is direct politics, but it doesn’t target or criticize anyone. It talks about unity and working for the people.”The filmmaker also explained the meaning of the title. According to him, the story is rooted in democratic values, which is why the protagonist was introduced as the “Torch Bearer of Democracy” in the first look poster of the film.

Vijay’s last film before the full-time political journey

‘Jana Nayagan’ is expected to be Vijay’s last feature film before he fully focuses on politics. The actor is currently the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.The film was initially expected to hit theaters earlier. However, its release was pushed back following delays related to CBFC certification. During the postponement, parts of the film also surfaced online through unauthorized leaks before the makers completed the certification process.The action drama has now received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its theatrical debut.Directed by H.
