DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand has become the sixth most literate state under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) programme, marking a major step in its adult education journey. The government got the opportunity after meeting the major learning benchmarks prescribed by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Union Education Ministry, officials said.The government was able to take a major step after implementing the senior citizen policy set by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Union Ministry of Education, he said.Following this, Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General (Ret.) Gurmeet Singh accepted this request that the government knows how to write in full.Before Uttarakhand, five other states – Mizoram, Goa, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim – had already achieved literacy.Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami he described the achievement as “necessary” for the government.He said that the active participation of the people, along with the work that the government is doing, has helped a lot to make this project possible.Appreciating the people of the government, Dhami said, “This collective effort will help achieve the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047. Also, the government will continue to work hard to ensure that digital literacy, numeracy, continuing education, and life skills reach every citizen.” The state minister approved the proposal for full registration of Uttarakhand on June 19.According to government officials, the literacy rate in Uttarakhand is currently over 98 percent.
