Director Craig Gillespie’s superhero film ‘Supergirl’ has started its box office with a modest opening in India. The film starring Millie Alcock in the lead, opened to an estimated collection of Rs 1.40 crore nett on Day 1, claims a report in Sacnilk.

According to early commercial figures, the release from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures played in 2,967 shows, taking its gross collection in India to Rs 1.67 crore. The film which released in multiple languages, amassed the highest collections of the film’s English release. Breaking down the language collections, the English version led the film’s performance with Rs 1.05 crore, followed by the Hindi version with Rs 20 lakh. The Tamil version collected Rs 10 lakh, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 5 lakh.
‘Supergirl’ fights ‘Welcome to the Jungle’
In India, ‘Supergirl’ faced stiff competition from Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Welcome To The Jungle’. The comedy entertainer had already built momentum through paid preview shows, raking in around Rs 3.75 crore nett (roughly Rs 4.50 crore gross) ahead of its official release. On the first day, the Hindi comedy grossed around Rs 15 crore nett from 10,892 shows, taking its cumulative India nett collection to Rs 18.75 crore and India gross to Rs 22.50 crore.Overseas, the film has collected Rs 6.50 crore, taking its total worldwide gross to Rs 29 crore.
‘Supergirl’ earns $13 million at the US box office
“Supergirl” also got off to a promising start in North America, earning an estimated $7.8 million from Thursday previews at the U.S. box office and grossed $13 million worldwide on its opening day. According to Deadline, the film is currently tracking a collection of $40 million.

‘Supergirl’ follows Alcock’s character Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, who made a cameo appearance in ‘Superman’ (2025). The film, which also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet and Jason Momoa, is the second theatrical release of the new DC universe headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
