SS Rajamouli honored at Cinémathèque Française as Costa-Gavras watches 8 hours of his films |
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is currently on a European tour and has received a permanent position at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris. The event was made even more special because Oscar-winning filmmaker Costa-Gavras attended the celebration and spent close to eight hours watching Rajamouli’s films and the master class.
SS Rajamouli receives honor in Paris
The ‘Varanasi’ director shared his happiness on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote: “To be here in Paris and to screen my films is an honor for me. But a sweet surprise that I never saw coming. It is a feeling that I cannot fully express in words. To have a permanent place in the halls of one of the most legendary film institutions in the world, named after the great Henri Langlois, is something that I will carry with me forever.“Further sharing her gratitude, she thanked everyone who made the moment possible. “My deepest thanks to the legendary Mr. Costa Gavras and the entire Cinémathèque Française family for this honor and for embracing Indian cinema with such warmth and love,” he added.Interestingly, Costa-Gavras had planned to watch only RRR and return another day for Eega. After seeing the first film, he changed plans and stayed with his wife for the rest of the screenings and the master class.
SS Karthikeya shares a memorable moment
SS Rajamouli’s son and filmmaker SS Karthikeya shared the special moment on his social media where he revealed, “93 year old Academy Award winner and legendary French filmmaker Mr. Costa Gavras came to see RRR yesterday and told @ssrajamouli that he will return to Eega tomorrow, skip Baahubali today he surprised us with his hours to watch both movies and the master class. These are the moments that inspire us and remind us why we are at the cinema”.

On the current work front, SS Rajamouli is working on time travel action adventure film ‘Varanasi’ with Telugu superstar Mahesh BabuPriyanka Chopra and Prithiviraj Sukumaran in the lead.
