Mollywood actors Revathy Asha Kelunni and Padmapriya Janakirama have resigned from the Association of Malayalam Cinema Artistes (AMMA). The two actors announced their resignation through a joint statement shared on Instagram on Monday.Actors said they had remained hopeful that the organization would introduce meaningful reforms. However, after waiting for the change, they decided to end their primary affiliation.
The joint statement explains the decision
In their statement, Revathy and Padmapriya said they had consistently sought a professional environment based on fairness, safety and accountability.Their statement read: “Today, we are relinquishing our primary affiliation with AMMA Not in anger, not in a hurry. Between us, we’ve given decades to this industry, and we care about where it goes next. For years the question was simple: safety, dignity, responsibility and equal treatment. Instead, what we found was silence and the slow realization that this institution, as it stands, is not ready to change.”They further wrote, “Malayalam cinema will always be ours to love and work with. AMMA continues to face organizational turmoil
The resignations come during a period of major developments within AMMA. The organization recently witnessed the resignation of its 17-member executive committee, led by actor Shwetha Menon. The decision came after a no-confidence motion and extensive discussions held during the association’s annual general meeting in Kochi.After the resignation of the executive committee, the AMMA general body appointed an ad-hoc committee to oversee the affairs of the organization. The interim group is headed by Ramesh Pisharody.
