After portraying a wide range of memorable characters, from a rebellious musician to a deaf mute and even a ruthless force driven by revenge, Ranbir Kapoor he believes that stepping into the role of Lord Rama is one of the biggest challenges of his career. In Nitesh Tiwarithe ambitious adaptation of Ramayanathe actor takes on the role of the revered deity worshiped by billions of Hindus worldwide.During the Ramayana panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Ranbir appeared alongside co-star Yash, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra. Speaking to Fanversation on the sidelines of the event, the actor reflected on the extensive preparation that went into portraying Lord Rama.Discussing whether his preparation involved a major physical transformation, Ranbir emphasized that the mental and spiritual journey was far more important. “I always feel that this kind of preparation, to do a body or an action and dance, is a bit easy because that’s a bit superficial. But really understanding Lord Rama’s philosophy deeply at that age and at that point in my life was very important to embody that character. You want to give your best and be simple and not complicated. You want to be someone that someone into their 80s can relate to. Understanding Lord Rama’s teachings was more important than superficial transformation.”The actor revealed that his process involved deep study, guidance from scholars and years of spiritual discipline. Explaining how he approached the mindset of the character, he said, “I read a lot, I met a lot of scholars. I practiced yoga for two years. I had a guru called Suvir who used to sit and meditate with me for hours to get really close to the teachings of Lord Rama. It’s really understanding the text because we have it. There are so many versions and iterations.”The Ramayana team also attended the San Diego Comic-Con for what was expected to be the world premiere of the film’s trailer. However, just hours before its scheduled launch at 8am on Friday, the launch was postponed.Announcing the decision on social media, producer Namit Malhotra wrote, “Today is a very special moment for our ‘Ramayana’, my dream of bringing Ramayana to the world is now a reality with our association with Sony Pictures Entertainment. In light of the above, we will release our trailer now globally at a later date. “In over 100 years of Indian cinema, this will become a moment of great pride where Ramayana will be shown to the whole world like any major Hollywood global film. This is special as it opens the door for people around the world to discover the richness of our culture and our stories with renewed pride and enthusiasm.”Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is released as a two-part film saga. The first installment is scheduled to hit theaters this November. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, the film appears Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble cast also includes Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet SinghLara Dutta, Arun Govil, Vivek Oberoietc Kunal Kapooramong others.
