As anticipation builds for the ‘Ramayana‘, the upcoming mythological epic has received its first international classification.According to an update on the Australian Classification Board website, a 34-minute footage of the Ranbir Kapoor-directed film has been certified, giving fans a tease of what is considered one of the most ambitious Indian film adaptations of all time.According to the Australian Classification Board’s listing, images of the Nitesh Tiwari directorial has been awarded an ‘M’ (Mature) classification for “moderate violence”.
Classification ‘M’ and its meaning
Under Australian guidance, an ‘M’ (Mature) rating is an advisory rating. Movies and computer games rated “M” are “not recommended for children under 15”. They may have content such as “violence and themes that require a mature view”. Children under the age of 15 may legally access this content.
‘Ramayana’ Synopsis
A brief synopsis of the film was also shared on the site which reads, “An ancient epic follows a young prince and princess whose marriage and subsequent exile mark the beginning of a legendary journey. Their story of love, duty and destiny sets the stage for great challenges ahead.”
‘Ramayana’ gears up for trailer release
The latest certification comes just days before the makers are expected to unveil the film’s trailer. The Central Film Certification Board (CBFC) in India awarded the trailer a ‘U’ (Universal) certificate. According to the update, the film will have two trailers, one roughly 4 minutes long and the other 4 minutes and 15 seconds long.While the trailers are expected to be released next week on July 24, the 34-minute clip submitted for Australian certification is understood to be for a separate presentation of the film and not for the theatrical trailer. While it’s still unclear what the content of this clip is, chatter online suggests it could be the same footage previously screened at CinemaCon earlier this year.

The film will be released in a two-part epic saga, with the first part slated for Diwali 2026 and the second installment slated for Diwali 2027.
