Karnataka cuts late entry fee in PU colleges from 2026-2027

Students who take late admissions in government Pre-University (PU) colleges in Karnataka will no longer have to pay fees from the 2026-27 academic session. The Ministry of Education and Literacy has abolished the late registration fee system, saying that the program is being misused by some colleges.Until now, students admitted up to 10 days before the deadline had to pay a fee of Rs 670, while those admitted within 20 days had to pay a special fee of Rs 2,220.

The government is talking about the misuse of punishment

The department said that the sanctions policy, which was issued by the government on March 20, 2018, is being used to accept people who received it after the last day without the approval of the authorities. With the latest system, first and second Pre-University Course (PUC) students in government PU colleges will no longer have to pay these fees.In a letter on X, the department said that the old law that imposed late admission fees has been removed. “Starting from the current academic year (2026-27), students who have received late admission for PUC First and Second classes in all government pre-university colleges in the state will be exempted from paying a fee of Rs 670 and Rs 2,220 respectively.

Colleges have been told to follow the admission process

The Department of School Education and Literacy has directed all public PU colleges to follow the official calendar. The Director of Pre-University Education has been asked to issue detailed guidelines and monitor their implementation. The government said the decision is expected to benefit students from families with financial difficulties who often need more time to prepare documents or complete approvals. Removing the additional fees, he said, would help many students to continue their studies at the PU level.
