“Kapil Sharma went on an abusive rant,” recalls the film journalist of his row with the comedian: “Do you think Govinda, Salman Khan call and abuse people?” | Hindi Movie News
today, Kapil Sharma is regarded as one of India’s most successful comedians, but around 2018 he was embroiled in controversy. Reports at the time claimed that he was frequently late to shoots, making guests wait for hours, and in some cases he didn’t show up at all, leading to cancellations.Amidst this turbulent period, Kapil got involved in a public spat with entertainment journalist Vickey Lalwani. The comedian allegedly called Lalwani and went on an abusive rant, accusing him of posting negative stories in exchange for money. Looking back on the incident, Lalwani described the episode as one of the most amazing experiences of his career.Vickey recalled receiving a call from an unknown number in April 2018. According to him, the caller introduced himself as Kapil Sharma “Kapil went on an abusive rant, which I think was absolutely shocking,” Vickey said in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. Having spent more than two decades in journalism, he said no actor had ever reacted to his reporting in this way, regardless of whether the coverage was flattering or critical.“I told him you can’t do that. He wasn’t willing to listen,” she said. After the exchange, Vickey decided to post the audio recording of the conversation on social media. Explaining his decision, he said: “I needed to let the public know that your hero is like this.”When asked what could have sparked Kapil’s anger, Vickey pointed to reports about the comedian’s alleged tardiness. “He had some problem because I was writing about him being late to the set. It happened. He used to be very late. The stars were waiting for him; he had canceled the shoots,” he said. Drawing a comparison with other actors who have faced similar criticism, he added, “You believe Govinda yell and abuse people? Or does Salman? Absolutely not.”Vickey also claimed that the conversation crossed personal lines when Kapil allegedly made comments about his daughter. “He said some trash about my daughter. That’s it. I don’t want to go into it again. How can you cross a certain line? He crossed all lines,” she said. The controversy had further intensified in 2018 when Kapil publicly targeted Vickey on social media, accusing the journalist of accepting money to publish stories aimed at damaging his reputation.
