The Ministry of Education has a new face at the helm. A day later President Droupadi Murmu accepted his resignation Dharmendra PradhanSenior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pralhad Joshi on Sunday took over as Union Minister of Education.His appointment comes at a time when the ministry is under scrutiny due to the instability of the competitive exams and the growing demand from students for transparency and changes in the exam system.In charge of the ministry, Joshi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the post.“Today, I have become the Union Minister for Education. I thank Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for trusting me and giving me this position,” he said in a tweet on X.

The appointment follows Pradhan’s resignation
The change in leadership was announced on Saturday after the Rashtrapati Bhavan said President Droupadi Murmu had accepted Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect.According to a government statement, Joshi has been given the post of Education Minister in addition to his previous posts.“The President of India, as instructed by the Prime Minister, accepted the resignation of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, in accordance with clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution of India. Also, as instructed by the Prime Minister, the President also ordered that Shri Pralhad Joshi, the Minister of Education to be in charge of the Rafotra port of the Ministry of Education, “to be given the position of the Ministry of Education in Rafotra. He said in a Bhavan statement.Joshi will continue as Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy. He is a member of the Lok Sabha from Dharwad constituency in Karnataka. In the previous government, he ran the Ministry of Coal, Mines and Parliament.
The change in leadership comes after weeks of protests
The change comes after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the cabinet after weeks of protests over non-compliance with examinations.Announcing his resignation, Pradhan said he had submitted it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the interest of the students and to ensure that the ongoing protests are not misused by “militants”.The protests brought students to the streets in several parts of the country, demanding accountability, transparency and reform in the examination system.
CJP clears Jantar Mantar protests
The change in leadership was followed by major developments in the protest scene in Delhi.The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been ruling Jantar Mantar for 37 days, has announced that it is calling off the agitation “in good faith” after Pradhan resigned from the Council of Ministers.The outfit said it had also received confirmation from the government on some of its demands.Although the protests have now ended, many of the issues raised by the students, including changes to the exams and restoring confidence in the system, are still before the Ministry of Education.(with organizational inputs)
