While talking to India Today, H Vinoth shared that the story of the film is about democracy, unity and working for the people. “There is a direct policy but it does not target or criticize anyone. This is a policy that speaks of unity and work for the people,” he said.He also explained the title, saying, “It’s not a blanket term. This is a film related to democracy, so we chose that title. The first poster mentioned “Torch Bearer of Democracy”.Talking about Vijay’s hand-cutting gesture seen in the trailer, he said, “It is necessary for the script and it is there. Watch the film and if you think it is not relevant, I will answer you.”

Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ marks his last film before focusing on his political career. Now he also serves as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The film has been much discussed as it was initially supposed to be released in January. However, it faced a long delay in getting its CBFC certificate.The film was stuck with the censor formalities for months and during that time, the producers faced another challenge when it was leaked online.
