PUNE: Architects of the future must combine emerging technologies with innovation, research, and experimentation to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world, says senior architect and co-founder A For Architecture, Ar. Ajay Sonar said while addressing the architecture students at the eighth edition of ‘Brick 12 on 12’, an exhibition organized by Brick Group of Institutes of Satish Misal Educational Foundation.“Architecture today is not just about making houses. It’s about creating sustainable places, which are in the middle of people, and places that are sensitive to the environment that make life better. Young architects must develop new ideas and create solutions to meet the needs of people and the environment,” said Sonar.The two-day event, which was held at the Sarathi Institute Hall on Agharkar Road, included a discussion of 12 selected students, each of whom presented their research, design ideas, and architectural ideas in 12 minutes. The program also included an annual exhibition, an alumni meeting, professional training, and discussions aimed at connecting academic studies with industry practices.Architects, academics, alumni, and industry experts interacted with students, providing information on career opportunities, evolving technology, and changing expectations in the construction industry. The exhibition showcased creative ideas and research projects created by students.Famous artist Ar. Rajeev Vishwasrao encouraged students to balance technical expertise with social responsibility and a deep understanding of local needs, while stressing the importance of lifelong learning. Dr. Raosaheb Latpate, Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology at Savitribai Phule Pune University, encouraged students to pursue research-based learning, use emerging technologies, and embrace diverse perspectives.Panel discussion on ‘Beyond Design: The Strategy Behind Successful Projects’ was architect Ar. Vijay Sane, Ar. Aditi Watve, Ar. Rohit Sardesai and directed by Ar. Kanika Agrawal, who shared the company’s vision for delivering successful construction projects.Dr. Pooja Misal, Founding Director of the organization, said the program was designed to give students a global opportunity to present their ideas in front of experts, build their confidence, and prepare them for professional careers. Principal Dr. Poorva Keskar said such efforts help students develop communication skills, research skills, and professional attitudes.
