The tense relationship between Arya Babbar and his half-brother Prateik Smita Patil are back in the spotlight after a clip of Arya’s standup comedy set went viral online. In the clip, Arya refers to her genitals as her ‘chota bhai’ (little brother) while discussing depression. He then quips, “And by chota bhai, I don’t mean Prateik Babbar.”As the audience laughs, Arya immediately corrects herself and says, “Prateik Smita Patil“, drawing applause. He then adds, “Kya ho raha hai Smita maa.”The actor later shared the video on social media with the caption, “Names were not changed when doing this prank,” seemingly referring to Prateik’s decision to adopt his late mother Smita Patil’s surname.

“I noticed you changed your name”

Clarifying the context behind the comment, Arya insisted that there was no intention to mock her brother.“I talk about chota bhai in terms of depression and at the moment I just said that chota bhai doesn’t mean Prateik Babbar. As soon as I said that, I realized that he’s changed his name and he’s quite sensitive about this thing that he doesn’t mean Prateik Babbar. So I just corrected myself,” Arya told Hindustan in an interview. He added, “The world knows that I don’t take the name Smita Maa without adding maa, so I said that. For me, it was not a joke. I was just stating a fact, the audience found humor in it.”

“Wo phone answer kar le, main baat kar lunga”

When asked if he would like to mend fences with Prateik, Arya said he remains open to a conversation.“Wo answer the phone kar le, main baat kar lunga. Please choose kiya hai ki main apni family seedhe nahin, media ke through baat karunga, for hamare paas bhi koi option nahin bachta,” he said. Arya also questioned the perception that her side of the family is often portrayed negatively.“What I don’t agree with is that Babbar sahab’s first family cannot be the bad guys. Why are you being victimized and called the bad guys. We are not saying anything to you, we accept and respect you, so why are we the bad guys?” he asked
