The Punjab government has opened applications for the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students for the academic session 2026-27, giving thousands of deserving students the opportunity to pursue higher education without the burden of financial hardship.Announcing the launch on Sunday, Punjab Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said that applications are being accepted through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) from July 1. He encouraged all eligible students to complete the process before the deadline to avoid last minute issues.The goal is to ensure that the economic downturn does not force deserving students to abandon their educational aspirations.
The application period has been announced
The department has developed a detailed plan for the educational process. Students can submit their forms until November 15, 2026. Those whose forms have errors will be allowed to correct them until November 30.Educational institutions have been advised to complete the verification of schools by November 30, while the final examination of the District, State and Ministry Nodal Officers will be completed by December 15. The proposed process aims to ensure timely preparation and reimbursement of educational benefits.
The government emphasizes equal opportunities in education
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the scholarship program reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for Scheduled Caste students and promoting social justice through education.He said the project is in line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of building “Rangla Punjab,” where deserving students can get quality education regardless of their financial status.According to the minister, higher education should be based on skills and aspirations, not because of family finances.
Employment-linked scholarships and reduced migration
The ministry also emphasized the government’s focus on creating job opportunities in Punjab.He said that when apprenticeship programs are combined with open and merit-based recruitment, they can reduce the financial burden of families with financial difficulties while encouraging young students to create careers in the government.The government believes that improving access to education and employment will also help prevent the migration of talented young people to seek opportunities elsewhere.
District officials have been advised to inform as many people as possible
To ensure that every eligible student benefits from the scheme, Dr Baljit Kaur has instructed the District Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Officers to organize awareness and support camps in villages, towns and remote areas.These camps will help students understand what to do, complete applications and avoid mistakes that could delay the acceptance of their scholarship applications.
Educational institutions played a major role
The Minister has also ordered several government departments — including Higher Education, Medical Education and Research, Technical Education and Industrial Education, School Education, and Animal Husbandry — to work together with partner organizations to help eligible students complete their work within the set dates.Colleges and educational institutions have been requested to facilitate the applicants in a timely manner and ensure that verification is completed on time.
The government reiterates its commitment
Confirming what the government says, Dr. Baljit Kaur said the Punjab government will continue to provide all assistance to deserving students so that financial problems do not hamper higher education.While the application process is underway, the government has put equal emphasis on financial assistance, institutional support and awareness campaigns to make the scholarship accessible to every eligible Scheduled Caste student in Punjab.(With PTI inputs)
