Tata Sierra EV launched tomorrow: Boost mode, AWD, expected range and more
Tata Motors Tomorrow (June 30), the much-awaited Sierra EV will be launched in India. The electric SUV will debut in a new avatar and will be positioned between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in the company’s growing lineup of electric vehicles. Ahead of its debut, Tata has released multiple teasers revealing key details about the SUV’s design, cabin, technology and performance.

One of the biggest highlights comes from the latest trailer, which hints at the range of the Sierra EV. When the battery is charged to 80%, the digital instrument panel displays a remaining range of 424 kilometers. While Tata Motors is yet to announce official figures, the display shows that the SUV is said to have a range of over 500 kilometers on a full charge.The latest trailer also shows off the cabin in more detail. The Sierra EV features a modern dashboard layout and a two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata EV logo. Another interesting addition is a dedicated boost mode that can be activated using a physical button on the center console. The feature is expected to temporarily unlock maximum power and torque.The SUV will also come with multiple terrain modes. In one of the teaser videos shot on the Tal Moreeb sand dunes in Abu Dhabi, the driver’s display shows Sand Mode in action, indicating that the Sierra EV has been developed to handle different road conditions.Tata Motors has confirmed that the Sierra EV will come with an all-wheel drive option. The higher version is expected to feature the company’s four-wheel-drive dual-motor setup that was first launched on the Harrier EV, while the lower version is likely to use a single electric motor to drive one axle.

The Sierra EV is expected to come with premium features. The lower variant is likely to get a dual-screen dashboard layout, while the top-end variant is likely to get a triple-screen setup similar to the recently launched ICE Sierra. Other expected equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a power tailgate, a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos support.

On the outside, the Sierra EV retains the same unique silhouette as the ICE version, but gains some EV-specific styling elements. These include an enclosed front fascia with body-coloured panels, connected LED DRLs, vertically stacked LED fog lights, recessed door handles, aerodynamic alloy wheels and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.
Tata Sierra EV: Powertrain
The Sierra EV is likely to be offered with multiple battery pack options, including 55 kWh and 65 kWh units, while later versions can also borrow the Harrier EV’s larger 75 kWh battery pack. Fast charging capabilities are also expected to be part of the package, allowing the battery to be topped up in significantly less time using a DC fast charger.Tata Motors is also expected to extend its battery-as-a-service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, giving customers the option to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery through a subscription-based ownership model, thereby reducing the initial purchase cost.Once launched, it will compete with rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara in India’s fast-growing electric SUV segment.
