In an effort to promote bilingual schools, the Directorate of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) has initiated an annual state conference with the Regional Institute of English, South India (RIESI).The meeting focused on promoting the implementation of bilingual education in public schools by providing members of the District Resource Team with knowledge and skills to support teachers in the field. The course consisted of sharing experiences and dealing with classroom problems, basic assessment, teaching English through textbooks, effective teacher communication and classroom language and familiarity with English textbooks, EVS, Maths and Kannada, with a strong emphasis on identifying difficult learning areas and classroom strategies.The conference is the beginning of a year-long program to engage teachers in bilingual schools of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Karnataka. After the state consultation, the trained District Support Teams will conduct the consultation for the Master Resource Persons (MRPs), who will then organize the consultation for the teachers. Together, the DRTs and MRPs will implement a year-long educational support program for approximately 65,000 teachers in Karnataka from July 2026 to March 2027 through face-to-face training, regular online sessions, classroom mentoring, and ongoing academic support to promote bilingual education in public schools.About 389 DRTs were trained from July 21-21, 22 and 23 July 2026.
