The film’s UK distributor confirmed that ‘Jana Nayagan’ will be released in the UK with a 15 rating and no cuts or edits. The ad promises that the audience will experience the film as it was made. Interestingly, this is not the first time such a statement has been made. The distributor had also announced an uncut UK release in January, when the film was originally scheduled to hit theaters during the Pongal season, before its release was delayed.
Uncut UK release reconfirmed after months of delay
The latest confirmation comes after ‘Jana Nayagan’ has finally completed its lengthy certification process in India. Ahimsa Entertainment shared the update on social media, calling it “one last time” that fans will get to witness Vijay on the big screen in his latest film. The publication highlighted that the film would be shown in UK cinemas “uncut” and “exactly as it was meant to be seen”. Fans were quick to jump on the announcement, many were excited to see the uncut version. Several also expected the same version to be available on OTT after the theatrical release.
Indian version was removed after CBFC changes
Unlike the UK version, the Indian release has undergone several modifications before receiving an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, initially slated for a Pongal release earlier this year, faced a lengthy certification process that delayed its release by nearly seven months. The CBFC reportedly made several audio-visual changes, including modifying certain dialogues, names and references related to Vijay’s political identity. Finally, the filmmakers made the necessary changes and got the go-ahead for a theatrical release.
