Disha Patani working with Kevin Spacey
Speaking to Variety India, Disha said, “He (Kevin Spacey) is amazing. As an actor, he understands his actors. He is one of the best actors in the world. He gives his actors a lot of space to experiment. He would tell us to draw from our own experiences. He would encourage us to think about questions like, ‘How would you react to a situation like this’? ‘Would you cry?’ ‘What would you feel?’ ‘How would you get excited?’ Every morning he would sit with us and take us through the scene. I found it really special. I don’t think I’ve done that with any of the creators in the past. It’s also like taking some responsibility to understand the character and deliver it.”
Disha Patani on breaking Hollywood
The actress also talked about her journey to Hollywood, shedding light on how factors like representation, accessibility, auditions and logistical aspects like visas play a big role in the process. She said: “A lot depends on accessibility. The West is very focused on audition templates. You have to audition things. It depends on how accessible it is to you and who you’re signed to. Destiny plays a part as well. Sometimes they just end up seeing your work and offering you projects and auditions. It also depends on visa and other logistics. Everything is very technical. It’s a different country at the end of the day. But you will have to be present. You can’t sit here and tear up papers there. You can audition from here, but it’s best to go there, stay a while and work on it. It’s the same with any country.”
