New Delhi: The World University of Design (WUD) has introduced two new academic programs in theater for the session 2026-27. The institution has launched a four-year Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours) in Theater and a two-year Master of Performing Arts in Theater aimed at students in India seeking higher education in acting and other creative fields.These programs come at a time when jobs from India are expanding beyond the theater industry. According to the university, opportunities now include film, television, OTT platforms, live events, social media, education and storytelling formats. Admission to both programs is open.Increase in vocational training in IndiaWUD said that the new course has been developed in light of the changing economic situation in India. The university noted that theater education in India that combines classical education with contemporary performance is still limited, even though the demand for trained professionals is growing.The agency pointed out that the media and entertainment sector in India is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, supported by the rise of digital content, live entertainment and information industries. These programs seek to integrate academic studies with progressive methods.

Advanced software designThe Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours) in Theater includes courses in acting, voice, movement, directing, script analysis, stagecraft, theater history and production. The course is designed to provide students with technical understanding and practical exposure through workshops, performances and collaborative projects.Students will also work on theater productions and productions to develop technical skills during the course. WUD said that the graduates will complete the program with jobs that will help them enter several fields of film production, including theater, film, TV and digital.Higher education and expertiseThe Master of Performing Arts in Theater is aimed at graduates who wish to specialize in areas such as directing, drama, theater studies, performance research and production leadership. The program will also focus on best practices, research methods and interdisciplinary collaboration.The university said that the graduates will be trained to work as scholars, educators and researchers in Indian cultural societies. The course also includes exposure to today’s best practices and collaborative work methods.A multi-disciplinary learning environmentWUD said theater students will study alongside peers from design, fashion, animation, film, architecture, visual arts and management. The university added that academics, festivals, productions and industry interactions are part of the curriculum.According to the institute, these programs are aimed at preparing students to work in India’s emerging industries where operations, design and technology are closely intertwined.
