The West Bengal government has declared a national holiday on July 6 to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The announcements, issued through the notification of the state finance department, will affect government offices, educational institutions, and several government agencies throughout the state.This move recognizes two prominent figures who are closely associated with the history of West Bengal, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Chief Minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.
July 6 declared as a public holiday in West Bengal
According to a Finance Department notification issued on Thursday, July 6 will be observed as a holiday in West Bengal to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee.The statement described Mookerjee as “one of the most honored children of this state”, underscoring the government’s decision to grant a full holiday in his honour. As a result, government agencies under notification will be closed on that day.
Government offices and educational institutions should be closed
The 6th July holiday will be applicable to various organizations working under the West Bengal government.This includes:
- Government offices
- Educational institutions
- Rural community organizations
- Rural community organizations
- Government agencies
- Government actions
- The charitable organizations working under the auspices of the West Bengal government
The shutdown is expected to affect regular administrative and educational services in the district throughout the day.
A half-day holiday was announced on Doctors’ Day on July 1
In a separate commemoration, the state government also declared a half-day holiday on July 1 to commemorate Doctors’ Day, which is celebrated every year in memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was the chief minister of West Bengal and one of the most respected doctors in India.Under the law, all relevant government offices and institutions will remain open for the first half of the day and close from 2pm onwards.The memorandum said that, like previous years, the government will hold this event as Doctors’ Day.
