'They're actors': 'Toxic' star Benedict Garrett slams trolls against Kiara Advani for 'Tabaahi' song

The recently released song ‘Tabaahi’ by YashThe upcoming ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ movie has been making rounds on the internet. While many praised the chemistry between Yash and Kiara Advania section of social media users criticized Kiara for appearing in romantic scenes after her marriage and motherhood. The trolling soon caught the attention of British actors Benedict Garrettwho is also part of the film, and decided to address the issue through a heavily worded video shared on Instagram.

Benedict Garrett questions the double standards behind trolling

In his video, Benedict directly questioned the double standard surrounding reactions to the song. “I’ve seen people praising Yash, filling their comments with fire emojis and saying how amazing he looks. But when it comes to Kiara Advani, she’s become the butt of jokes. People say things like, ‘Oh, she just got married, she’s a mother, she’s on her honeymoon instead of Sidharth Malhotra’. Really?” he said He further added: “Yash, he’s also married and has kids too. So why is it only the woman who gets the abuse, while apparently the man gets the applause? Listen, here’s the reality check. They’re actors. Their job is to act, portray characters, make you believe they’re in love, even when they’re not.” Benedict also argued that the criticism had nothing to do with Kiara’s performance. “They don’t criticize her for her performance. They criticize her for being someone’s wife, for being someone’s mother. As if marriage somehow wants an actress to stop acting. This is ridiculous. The problem is not her professionalism. It’s the double standards and hypocrisy of the people who attack her,” she said.

The actor calls for a fair approach towards the performers

Along with the video, Benedict Garrett also shared a caption asking, “Why is Kiara Advani being attacked for doing her job, while Yash is being praised for doing the exact same thing? The backlash against Tabahi’s music video says more about society than either actor…” He emphasized that actors portray fictional characters and the public should separate their professional work from their personal lives. His comments have been supported by several fans, who praised him for speaking out against gender-based double standards in the entertainment industry.
