Heavy rains, flooding, and traffic jams brought many parts of the city to a standstill. The decision follows Indian Meteorological DepartmentMeteorological advisory (IMD) alert for severe weather conditions in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With roads flooded and public transport services severely affected, the university said the safety of students and staff cannot be compromised.
The university will postpone the examination schedule for July 6
In a notification, the University of Mumbai has announced that all undergraduate examinations on July 6 have been postponed until further notice.The university said the decision was taken in response to the incessant rains that had caused flooding in several parts of the city, making travel to the examination center dangerous. It advised the candidates not to report to their centers on the scheduled date.The shutdown comes as Mumbai continues to grapple with the annual monsoon, with incessant rain disrupting normal life and disrupting road and rail connectivity.
Student safety is cited as a top priority
The university said the delay was due to weather conditions and the IMD advisory, which indicated that rain would continue across the region.With thousands of students relying on trains, buses and road transport to get to the exam venue, officials decided that continuing the exam due to worsening weather would put candidates and staff at an avoidable risk.
A new test report will be released
While suspending the examination, the university explained that the papers were not completed. The updated schedule of all the exams scheduled for July 6 will be announced soon through the official website of the university.In its notification, the university said: “The new exam time will be published soon on the official website of the University of Mumbai.Students are advised to monitor the university portals regularly for announcements regarding the revised exam schedule.
Existing hall tickets remain valid
To avoid any kind of confusion in the revised exam, the university has ensured that the candidates will not be asked to get new admit cards.Students are advised to retain their hall ticket which will remain valid for the postponed examination. The university also said that candidates should rely on the updates released on the official website of the university.
