‘Batwara 1947’, the upcoming historical drama starring Sunny Deol and directed by Rajkumar Santoshhas been approved by Central Film Certification Board (CBFC) without any cut. The actor took to his Instagram stories on Monday to confirm the news, adding that the film has received an A certificate.

Sharing the update, Sunny Deol wrote, “We are delighted that Batwara 1947 has been cleared by the CBFC without a single cut and has got an A certificate. A film about humanity and love. Watch it in theaters from this partition day, August 14.”

‘Batwara 1947’ is based on a Mohajir family who cross over to Lahore and occupy an abandoned Hindu house after partition. Based on renowned playwright Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai’, the story centers on an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to leave her home and the tensions that arise between her and the Mohajir family. The film celebrates the bond between two families while exploring hope amid one of the darkest chapters in human history.The project marks the first collaboration between Sunny Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi and producer Aamir Khan. Aamir said in a statement, “This was one of Dharamji’s favorite scripts, and I am very happy that he got to see the film.”

The film also marks the reunion of the 90s actor-director duo of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi, known for iconic films like ‘Ghatak’, ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Damini’. Talking about the long journey of the project, Sunny said, “Lahore ek aisa subject hai jispe hum kaafi saalon se kaam kar rahe the; kayi actron ne kahaani suni hai. Kayi actor ke saath banne wala bhi tha, lekin bana nahi (Lahore is a subject we have been working on for many years. Several actors have heard the story. He even came close to getting a few actors, but ultimately it didn’t happen.) Again, ‘Gadar 2’ has made it all happen.”
Cast and release details
Apart from Sunny Deol, the film stars Shabana AzmiPreity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur. It marks Preity Zinta’s return to acting after more than five years. The music has been composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.‘Batwara 1947’ opens in theaters on August 14.
