Sanjay Leela Bhansali He has often been described by actors as a demanding filmmaker who seeks perfection on set. Veteran actor Yatin Karyekar, who worked with the director in ‘Bajirao Mastani‘, recently shared her experience of working with Bhansali, recalling both the strict nature of the filmmaker and the lighter moments she shared with her co-star. Ranveer Singh.Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Karyekar revealed that he and Ranveer developed a close friendship during the shoot, though they were careful not to let their fun interfere with work.He said, “Me and Ranveer were like friends. We hit it off really well. We were having a dhamaal on the sets. Sanjay ji is very strict, so not in front of him. But when we used to sit alone, it was pure fun. He (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) is a bit too strict.” The director is God to me.”Karyekar also related that Bhansali lost his cool with the actor Aditya Pancholi during filming. According to him, Pancholi had been scolding a junior artiste when the director intervened.“Once I saw him shouting at Aditya Pancholi. Aditya was scolding a junior artiste, so Sanjay shouted loudly, ‘Shut up Aditya’. It was not nice. I have heard many examples about his temper. When a senior artiste was not able to take a step, he threw a chair at him. He has broken many mobiles and microphones. He was quite prepared for all this. Aditya was shocked. He did not expect this,” he added. While recalling Bhansali’s fiery temper, Karyekar was full of praise for the filmmaker’s creative skills, ranking him among the best directors in the industry.“He’s a genius, a creative genius. If there are two pillars in the industry, it’s him and Rajkumar Hirani. Both have different working styles. One does not even realize that they are on a set of Raju’s film. Everything is great, calm down. There is no tension. Everyone smiles,” he concluded.Released in 2015, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in lead roles. The historical drama emerged as a critical and commercial success, gaining widespread acclaim for its performances, music and grand visual scale.
