Saif Ali Khan is all set to explore a whole new face on the big screen, with his role in ‘Haiwaan’. The film directed by Priyadarshan will see him reunite with the star Akshay Kumar in what he considers one of his most exciting roles to date.Throwing light on his new role, Saif shared that he will be playing an Indian version of a blind samurai. Although he has visual problems, the character has a special ability, he is able to detect things, fight, catch a ball and protect a girl. Saif found it fascinating to work on the physicality of the role without letting it feel over the top.

Speaking to Variety India, Khan said, “It was something completely new for me. More importantly, it’s a character written for the audience to really feel, which I haven’t had much, for whatever reason. I’m very happy to have landed this role. Working with Priyadarshan sir was amazing. He reminded me Clint Eastwood. Very economical and absolutely sure of what I wanted. We rarely did more than one take. I like to do a few takes, but you adapt to who you’re working with. It was interesting to be completely prepared for that first take, and somehow it really worked.”

Khan is also reuniting with Akshay Kumar in ‘Haiwaan’, having worked with him in films like ‘Yeh Dillagi’ (1994), ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ (1994), ‘Keemat’ (1998), ‘Aarzoo’ (1999) and ‘Tashan’ (2008). This time, however, Khan says Kumar’s role adds a new twist to their on-screen chemistry. “It’s great that he’s playing that role in this movie. It’s made him more exciting…in a kind of dangerous, negative role. I haven’t seen him do that very often. We’ve had great chemistry in the past. I love Akshay..he is like a big brother to me. We have a very special bond because we’ve seen each other since day one. We go all the way back. While shooting the film, Mr. Priyan would say, “You are behaving like naughty children.” Akshay was like, “I don’t know, it’s bringing this out to me,” and I was like, “You’ve been talking trash.” When we’re solo, I think we’re a little bit more mature.”

Their off-screen bond may remain the same, but ‘Haiwaan’ brings a new dimension to their on-screen dynamic. Khan shares, “This film doesn’t rely on that kind of chemistry and comedy, which is also good because I think it’s had its moment and it’s not make or break. This role is a dream for me. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.”
