Rasika Dugal is delighted to return to the world of ‘Mirzapur’, this time for his big screen debut. In a recent interview, he spoke about being a part of what he considers a first-of-its-kind moment for Indian entertainment, the series’ demanding shooting schedule, reuniting with the original cast and crew and the pressure to live up to the expectations of the franchise’s devoted fan base.
Rasika Dugal calls the film a historic moment, first of its kind
Describing ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ as a historic moment, Rasika expressed excitement to be a part of a project that charts new territory. Speaking to India Today, she said, “I am very excited to be a part of something that is happening for the first time in our country, in our industry, where a serial is being made into a film. I think it has happened in the West. Peaky Blinders is something that happened after the serial. The opposite has also happened in the West, where a film has become a series. But this is the first time it has happened in our country. So I’m really excited to be a part of that.”
Rasika Dugal hopes that the OTT audience will follow the show in theatres
The actor confessed that he is equally eager to see how audiences respond to the switch from OTT to the big screen. “I’m very curious to see how the audience receives this, and I hope that our very loyal streaming audience will also come to the theaters,” he added.
Rasika Dugal says that the shooting of the film was less hectic than the serial
Although the cast and crew remained the same, Rasika noted that the pace of the film’s shooting did not come close to the frenetic energy of the series. “The crew was exactly the same. It’s just that we had more time to shoot. In the serial, I feel like something is going to my head because I’m shooting five or six scenes in a day. I’ve just finished one, and I have no idea what happened. I’m barely struggling with what happened before I’m rushed into a room to change a saree and shoot another scene. It almost feels like I’m doing a theater show where you go to the wings and come back. It almost feels that way. And it feels very heavy,” he recalled.
Rasika Dugal remembers it Divyennu Sharma’s reaction on the set of Season 1
He recalled sharing this feeling with co-star Divyennu Sharma during the first season. “I remember talking to Divyenndu when we were shooting Season 1. We only had two minutes to sit, and Divyenndu looked at me and said, ‘Yaar yeh thoda zyada dark nahi ho raha hai (isn’t it getting a little too dark?)’ I said, ‘Thanks for articulating that,’ because I even said I was too tired.”
