MUMBAI: NCP-SP leader Rohit PawarFahad Ahmad and representatives of several student organizations met the Commissioner of Police in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon to express their concerns about the harassment of FIR-compliant students registered during the recent student protests.The representative wanted clarity on what is being done to the students named in the cases. The representatives said that the police chiefs assured them that other cases against students will be dealt with carefully and that no violence will happen.The police discuss the information and responses of the studentsAamir Kazi of the All India Students’ Federation (AISF), who was part of the delegation, said that the police had assured them that they would gradually process information and other policies related to THIS.“Although the decision to remove or stop the fire can be taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the police have assured us that they will proceed slowly with information and other procedures. The head of the organization also said that students can respond to the summons when they are called on WhatsApp and visit the police where they want,” said Kazi.The representative also expressed concern about the impact of the FIR offices on the protesting students and requested that the authorities consider the situation while taking action.Police explains the process of FIR registrationAccording to Mr. Kazi, the police told the delegation that they were initially unaware of the leadership of the protest which led to several FIRs being registered.The police representatives assured the student groups that the students will not face any problems in the current situation. The meeting also focused on addressing concerns about information, summons procedures and the handling of cases registered during the protests.Delegates ask for help from studentsAt the meeting there were student representatives along with political leaders who discussed the concerns of students after the protests.The representative said that decisions regarding withdrawal or cancellation of FIR should be taken from the home department. In the meantime, the police officials have assured the representatives that the operation will continue considering the condition of the students.The FIR-related developments follow the recent student protests in Mumbai, where several students were named in the cases registered by the police. Further decisions in those cases are subject to review and guidance from the relevant authorities.
