Maharashtra TET paper leaked: Chaos in Assembly as opposition demands education minister’s resignation, exits
The alleged leak of the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 sparked a political storm on Monday, with opposition parties slamming the government for repeated leaks and demanding a CBI probe into the case. The issue disrupted proceedings in the Maharashtra Assembly and Legislative Council. At the council, the opposition members started a ruckus, causing the House to be adjourned for 30 minutes. They have also called for the resignation of the school education minister, Dada Bhuse.Responding to these reasons, Bhuse said that the details of the matter will be explained tomorrow. He said the government has already established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and more than four teams are investigating the matter. The government has said that it will take strong action in this matter, the elections will also decide how the exam will be conducted in a clear manner,” said Bhuse.Raising the issue in the Legislative Council, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve asked why the government failed to prevent another paper leak despite the recent NEET-UG controversy.“There are errors of crores of rupees and paper leaks are happening regularly,” he said, adding, “If the exams are not conducted properly, then the education minister should resign.”Congress leader Satej Patil said it is the government’s responsibility to conduct the exam without errors. His party colleague Jayant Asgaonkar demanded a CBI probe, while Dhiraj Lingade said the country’s education system had “completely collapsed”. NCP (SP) leader Arun Lad said that issuing papers has become common because the government does not have strict laws to prevent it.In the meeting, the opposition demanded the suspension of Question Hour to discuss the TET paper leak. However, Speaker Rahul Narwekar rejected the request, saying that the House was planning to discuss additional requests and that the opposition had not followed the proper procedure to suspend Question Hour.Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized the government for failing students and teachers.“Millions of students and teachers spend years working hard to prepare for this exam. However, the constant leakage of paper takes away from their hard work. The government must answer to the people of Maharashtra why it has repeatedly failed to conduct these examinations in a clear manner,” he said.Wadettiwar called for a thorough investigation into the leak, saying that investigators should look at the entire list, including paper filers, corporate bodies and private companies involved in the investigation. Regarding the arrest of three people who were already arrested, he said that communication with other countries indicated that there was a central threat.Critics say the government’s actions have no clear way to prevent future emissions. Unhappy with the minister’s response, members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi staged a demonstration from Parliament in protest. The Maharashtra TET 2026 exam was suspended on Saturday, just a day before it was due to take place, after the Thane police discovered that part of the question paper had been leaked.
