Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’, based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, may miss its August release as CBFC has reportedly withheld clearance. Previously titled Battle of Galwan, the film also suffered a negative reaction in China. Salman plays Colonel Santosh Babu. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, it also stars Chitrangda Singh, with music by Himesh Reshammiya.

According to NDTV, the Central Film Certification Board (CBFC) has withheld the clearance certificate for Salman’s ‘Maatrubhumi’, earlier titled ‘Battle of Galwan’, till further orders.

Even before its release, the film had sparked controversy in China. After its teaser made its way online, several Weibo users accused the film of presenting a distorted account of the Galwan Valley clash. The Ministry of External Affairs addressed the matter in January, saying that issues related to cinema in India are dealt with by “relevant authorities” and that the MEA has “no role” in such matters.

The makers unveiled the teaser of the film on December 27, 2025, coinciding with Salman Khan’s 60th birthday. Salman plays Colonel Santosh Babu in the film, the commanding officer of the 16th Bihar Regiment, who led the Indian troops during the standoff while carrying out a disengagement agreement on the border.
