actor Kiran Abbavaram has hit back after facing criticism online for his comments comparing his Telugu film ‘K-Ramp’ to Hollywood film ‘Obsession’. Others felt he was stating that K-Ramp and Obsession were similar in more ways than one.
Kiran Abbavaram says his remarks were misunderstood
Kiran first spoke about Obsession while appearing on the Chari Not Sorry podcast. During the conversation, he joked that several of his friends had told him that the Hollywood film reminded them of “K-Ramp” because of a similar story. While promoting his upcoming film ‘Chennai Love Story’, Kiran explained that he was only referring to a common plot point and never intended to compare the two films as complete works. As quoted by Hindustan Times, Kiran said, “I don’t know why they are making it into something negative. All I said during a fun conversation was that some of my friends saw Obsession and they told me that it had the same plot point as K-Ramp. I just mentioned it there. I don’t know why they took it like that. Because what’s wrong with saying that, this movie feels similar to me?”.The actor also clarified that he has immense respect for ‘Obsession’ and acknowledged its global popularity. According to Kiran, his comments were made in a light-hearted manner and were never intended to undermine the Hollywood film.Kiran said: “Obsession is a bigger hit than ‘K-Ramp’; it has a universal reach. I have a lot of respect for it and I was just joking. I feel like I said it on a stream; they won’t watch it. When it’s written about, it’s a perception that I said K-Ramp is better than Obsession. I’ve never said that, so I hope everyone has said it. I respect other films more than my own; I would never say someone else’s movie.“
