BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut criticized the CJP’s ongoing protest near Parliament, saying the demonstrations should not be used to “arm-twist” or pressure the government to decide who should remain in office. Speaking to the media outside Parliament during the monsoon session on Monday (July 20), Kangana said Parliament is the right forum to debate public issues and discuss government decisions, rather than resolving these matters through protests.“Our parliamentary sessions are specifically designed so that we discuss all issues in an extensive and detailed manner and raise relevant issues,” he reacted.He also objected to protests disrupting proceedings, saying the elected government has a mandate to govern without being pressured by demonstrations. “Creating a ruckus, causing disruption and protesting in this way is not right. The people have elected a government, and they have the right to decide how they will run that government. If you feel so strongly, you don’t have to stand for election. and who to hold back; this kind of arm-twisting is not acceptable. Gradually, everyone will seek refuge in the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sanatan culture because that is our own culture, while everything else has been borrowed from the rest of the world,” Kangana added. Kangana Ranaut’s remarks came amid escalating CJP protests near Parliament during the ongoing monsoon session.Meanwhile, protesters trying to march towards Parliament were met with heavy security deployment in central Delhi. The CJP alleged that the police resorted to lathi charge to stop the protesters, a claim which the Delhi Police denied, saying no such action had been taken.As the march continued towards Parliament, police later fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Authorities had previously claimed that permission for the march had not been granted and warned that no unauthorized procession to Parliament would be allowed.In a related development, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke ended his hunger strike, while an activist. Sonam Wangchuk announced that he would continue his indefinite fast from Safdarjung Hospital.
Bollywood support for Sonam Wangchuk’s protest
Sonam Wangchuk’s campaign for constitutional safeguards and environmental protection in Ladakh has received wide support from several prominent voices in the film industry. Actor Prakash Raj has been one of the most vocal supporters, repeatedly calling on the government to engage with Sonam Wangchuk and the other protesters, students and respect peaceful democratic protests.Veteran actress Shabana Azmi also supported Wangchuk’s move, while her husband, renowned lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar, wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for meaningful dialogue and urging the Center to address Ladakh’s concerns. Filmmaker Onir, actor Omi Vaidya, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah praised Wangchuk’s peaceful approach. Also joining the long list were singer-songwriter Vishal Dadlani and actor and environmentalist Dia Mirza who expressed their solidarity with the activist, using their social media platforms to raise awareness of the movement and encourage public support.
