Emmy-winning host and executive producer John Oliver has landed a role in the long-running American soap opera General Hospital. Months after launching a comedy campaign to land a role on the show, her wish has officially come true, with her appearance confirmed for episodes airing in July.

John Oliver confirmed on the June 28 episode of his show that he will appear on General Hospital. After the announcement, he shared a statement that read, “General Hospital was everything I hoped it would be. It’s a true honor to be a small blemish in the history of this illustrious show.”The comedian will appear in three episodes of General Hospital, which airs July 2, 3 and 6 on ABC.According to PEOPLE, citing a press release, Oliver landed the three-episode role after publicly campaigning for a part of the show in March. General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini said in the statement: “When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn’t hesitate for a second. He was everything you’d expect him to be: prepared, professional, funny and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character to the story and I can’t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths with in Port Charles.”
On John Oliver’s request for “General Hospital”
Oliver made the request during the March 8 episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Speaking of her admiration for General Hospital, she jokingly lobbied for a “juicy” role on the long-running daytime drama.General Hospital is one of the longest-running soap operas in American television history and has been on the air for more than six decades. The series airs on ABC and can also be streamed on Hulu. Over the years, it has won 18 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Daytime Drama.
