One of the strongest moments inside the theaters was Vijay’s title card appearing on the screen. The film did not give him the usual on-screen credit but introduced him as “Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu – CM Vijay”. The audience broke into thunderous cheers. Fans were on their feet, booing and recording the moment on their phones; many called it the highlight of the opening show. ‘Jana Nayagan’ was not a smooth ride. The film was initially slated for a Pongal release on January 9, but the release was delayed due to certification issues that saw the producers fighting legal battles in Madras High Court and the Supreme Court. The production was also affected by the leak of a full copy of the film on the Internet months before its scheduled theatrical release. Despite the piracy issue and legal hurdles, the makers continued and the film finally hit the theaters with high expectations and overwhelming fan support.
