Inside the filming locations of “The Odyssey” by Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan has built his entire career on the belief that the real world is more cinematic than anything a screen can generate, and ‘The Odyssey’ takes that philosophy further than any film he’s made before. Shooting in six countries with large-format theatrical cameras and no green screens, Nolan took Homer’s ancient epic and found its landscapes alive and waiting in the real world. At CinemaCon in April, he described the experience as “an absolute nightmare for cinema, but in all the right ways,” adding: “We went all over the world to make this movie because this is The Odyssey. You’ll be happy to know how difficult it was for us because it has to be difficult. That’s the nature of the story.” Here are all the main production sites visited.
