Robert De Niro is one of the most loved and respected actors in the Hollywood industry. Over the years, the New York native has amassed a large amount of wealth from his work and projects, many of which he invested in building an extensive real estate portfolio. Over the years, the actor has spoken a lot about his love for his home state and how there’s no place like New York for him. His love for New York knows no bounds, as most of his estates are scattered around the area. From Greenwich Village to her Montauk Beach home, here’s a look at the beloved Hollywood star’s extensive New York portfolio.
Robert D Nero The premier West Village townhouse
This was once the actor’s main residence as he lived in the space for over 37 years. The New York Post previously reported that the actor had owned the stunning residence since 1975 for $190,000. The Italian style home is 5000 square feet and has three bedrooms. Not only that, but one of the most special qualities of this property is the fact that it has 12 foot high ceilings for optimal space. The house was originally built in 1852 and De Niro sold it in 2012 for $9.5 million.
Ulster County Estate
In 1997, the ‘Heat’ actor spent $1.5 million on this beautiful estate in the small town of Gardiner, New York. At the time, he had just married socialite Grace Hightower. The house is 2,222 square feet, while it resides on an estate consisting of 78 acres of land. The actor renovated the space to his liking, after which it consisted of six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a barn that was later converted into a 14,000-square-foot recreation center. This center included several private facilities for De Niro and his family, including a gym, boxing gym, game room, swimming pool, sauna, basketball court, and film studio.
Robert De Niro’s stunning Montauk beach house that he inherited from his father
This stunning Montauk estate was an inheritance he received from his late father, painter Robert De Niro Sr. After his death in 1993, the 1.5 acres of land and the 2,278-square-foot house were left in the hands of ‘The Intern’ actor. While not much is known about the beach house, it was once reported that the house had an outdoor deck area that only spanned 740 square feet. In 2017, he had applied to withdraw from the property so he could rebuild a bigger house. However, his request at the time was denied.
The 5th floor Upper West Side apartment that burned down
He and Hightower co-owned the property and had bought it together in 2006 for $20.9 million. Not many details about the 5th floor luxury apartment were released. However, in 2012, when the couple had been out of the country, CBS News reported that the luxury apartment and a large part of the building it was in had burned down in a dryer fire. After their return, the couple had to find different accommodation until the apartment was rebuilt. In 2018, Hightower and De Niro officially separated, and in 2025, the socialite sold the apartment for $18 million.
Hotel Greenwich the attic
De Niro is a New Yorker, so much so that he has invested in several commercial establishments across the state. This also includes the Greenwich Hotel, which the famous actor co-owns with Ira Drukier. Due to his property, De Niro owns one of the penthouses at the top of the hotel building. Inspired by the Japanese concept of ‘wabi sabi’, the actor hired Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt and Japanese architect Tatsuro Miki in 2014 to renovate and build the penthouses to embody the feeling of finding beauty within imperfection. While talking about the property to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor had stated, Tribeca has its own vibe and feel. Axel wanted to respect that and incorporate elements of the city. It’s more than interior design: it’s art.” Vervoordt had added while speaking with Architectural Digest that “The industrial treatment of the upper part is in perfect harmony with the building below.” Using wood, stone and other similar elements, the 6,800-square-foot unit was decorated and remodeled from top to bottom. Neutral tones and colors were used throughout the house to ensure it went well with the overall theme and vibe. Although De Niro partially owns the property, guests can also reserve the three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom unit.
Space on the 35th floor of the Upper West Side
In 2012, the veteran star also rented a luxury apartment located on the 35th floor. According to reports, she used to pay USD 125,000 per month for the rent of the 6,000 square feet property. Located on Central Park West, the space includes five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The property was listed for sale, according to Architectural Digest in 2014, for $55 million.
Duplex in Greenwich Village
This was Hightower and De Niro’s home after the devastating fire gutted their luxury home. The property was originally built as a manufacturing facility in 1920. They rented the space for a while until their apartment was rebuilt. The property overlooked a stunning patio area and had an entire wall dedicated to large windows overlooking the landscape outside. The two-story lobby was a unique design addition to the rental property. The space also includes personal spaces, including three wood-burning fireplaces, a library and a master suite. The building was 11,000 square feet and had five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. The couple stayed at the rental property for 2 years.
Robert De Niro’s property in London
The actor owns a one-of-a-kind property in London, which he bought for $1 million in 2001. The penthouse loft was once a jam factory and had two bedrooms spanning 2,100 square feet. Little is known of this London dwelling; however, it hit the market in 2018 for $2.16 million.
