Some students learn programming for the sake of programming. Some dream of working in technology. Spatika Prasad chose a different path, which brought her to the heart of India’s growing aerospace sector.Long before he carried his academic bags abroad, Spatika was writing software that would help launch rockets into space. Today, after participating in Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 mission, he is set to start a master’s degree at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Netherlands, adding another exciting chapter to an already inspiring journey.
From IIT Madras classes to space history
As an Embedded Software Engineer at Skyroot Aerospace, Spatika worked on software that played a critical role in the Vikram-1 mission – India’s first private rocket mission.Although his contribution was not visible, it was important in ensuring the success of the project.According to the IIT Madras BS Programs, his responsibilities included the development and testing of flight control programs, flight demonstration programs, and demonstration systems that help confirm the readiness of a rocket before launch.After Vikram-1 took off successfully, it was more than just another job for him.“Seeing years of hard work finally come to fruition has been one of the proudest moments of my career,” Spatika said.
How IIT Madras changed his journey
Along with his professional work, Spatika pursued a BS Program offered by IIT Madras, where he strengthened his understanding of programming, data science and analytical thinking.Reflecting on what he learned, he appreciated the program and improved his approach to solving complex engineering problems.“A solid foundation in programming, data science, and analytical thinking … has been instrumental in improving my problem-solving skills,” he said.His journey highlights the growing interdisciplinary nature of education in emerging fields such as aerospace, artificial intelligence and embedded systems.
Next destination: Netherlands
After participating in one of India’s secret tours, Spatika is now gearing up for another event.He has been accepted to a master’s program at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), the Netherlands, where he will continue his studies starting in August.For students, his story has an important message.Career options are no longer about choosing between engineering, computer science or data science. Most of the time, breakthroughs happen when lessons are passed.
