Sanjay Khan’s wife Zareen Khan he died in november last year. While married to a Muslim and born a Parsi, she was cremated according to Hindu rituals. While people raised questions, in a recent interview, Zareen’s daughter, jewelery designer Farah Khan Ali, has broken the silence. He revealed that the reason Zareen had wished to be cremated was that she wanted her ashes to be immersed in water. Opening up about her death as she became emotional, Farah said in an interview with Vickey Lalwani, “She was healthy and generous, she went to sleep at night. She was so calm, when she died, it couldn’t have been painful.” He further added, “I always told us that I pray to my Sai Baba that when he goes, I am caught in an instant in my sleep. Even though she was born a Parsi, she married a Muslim, she asked us to cremate her as a Hindu because she wanted her ashes to be immersed in running water in Kashmir. She was claustrophobic in a tomb. This was one of the reasons why she wanted to be cremated as a Hindu. When she died, there were so many nasty comments about why we cremated her as a Hindu. I come from a family where we were taught to love all religions, to celebrate all holidays. I can ignore trolls just fine. I’m an expert at ignoring trolls. At the end of the day, you only have so much time and you just have to pay attention to the people you care about and the people you love.” He further revealed: “At her prayer ceremony, we had five priests from different religions – Parsi, Sikh, Hindu, Christian, Muslim – they all said different prayers and then the children and we all talked about her. More than 2000 people came to her prayer ceremony because she was so loved.” When asked how she dealt with Sanjay Khan’s death of Zareen, Farah said: “I think men don’t take losses very well. My father was no exception. He also took my mother for granted because she was always there and today I think he misses her deeply. But he’s also someone who stays very busy because if he doesn’t stay busy, he’ll try to block her right now because she’s going to do it wrong. He was there 24/7 He hasn’t taken it well, he’s taking it like the rest of us.” He broke down in tears as he missed his mother and said, “I write to tell her about my day and what she means to me. I do it every other day. She was my universe, my world. There will never be another Zareen Sanjay Khan. She had two superpowers, to give love to everyone and to forgive and forget.”
