Swara Bhasker has alleged that her husband, political activist Fahad Ahmad, was arrested by the Mumbai police while taking part in a protest at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar. According to the actor, several other protesters were also arrested and taken to the Mahim police station. Calling the incident disturbing, Swara described it as a “shameful state of affairs”.On Monday evening, he shared a video on social media showing police personnel escorting Fahad out of the protest site. In the clip, he can be heard questioning the officers, asking: “Why are you arresting me?” The video was recorded around 4:30 p.m.
The actor alleges that the protesters were taken to the Mahim police station
Posting the video on her social media account, Swara wrote, “Mumbai police arrested @fahadizirarahmad and other protestors at #chaityabhoomi in Mumbai on 20th July 2026 at 4:30 pm. They are currently detained at Mahim police station. This is India’s democracy. Embarrassing (sic) state of affairs.”Earlier in the day, he had also uploaded another clip, apparently sent by Fahad from inside a police vehicle after his arrest.Alongside this video, the actor wrote, “I received this video at 4.30pm on 20th July 2026 from @fahadizirarahmad. He asked me to upload it. Mumbai Police is allegedly attacking peaceful protestors at #Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai. Supporters please contact Chaityabhoomi (peacefully and in large numbers).”
Police action during the demonstration has been reported
According to sources, several people who gathered in Chaityabhoomi to express their solidarity with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest were detained by the Mumbai police. Reports also suggest that some protesters were injured during the police action, although officials have not confirmed the exact number of people arrested or injured.
Delhi and Mumbai are witnessing parallel protests
The events in Mumbai coincided with the CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest in Delhi, where thousands of protesters gathered and marched towards Parliament.Among those present in the national capital were actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj, who joined CJP leader Abijeet Dipke and other protesters to support the movement. While Mumbai witnessed police arrests in Chaityabhoomi, Delhi saw massive participation in the march to Parliament, which turned into a day of simultaneous protests in two major cities.
