Diljit Dosanjh addressed fans during an Instagram Live session on Monday, a day after his latest film ‘Satluj’ was pulled from OTT. The live session mostly revolved around the film’s sudden withdrawal, but also gave the actor-singer a chance to respond, with trademark humor, to a fan’s suggestion that he get a green card.
Diljit Dosanjh’s witty response to the Green Card comment
While interacting with viewers during the session, a fan commented, “Paaji green card le lo.” Reacting humorously, Diljit replied, “I’ll take a card and paint it green. I’m not saying anything. Sab chhodke ye news ban jayegi. (Leaving everything else aside, this will become the news) It can’t happen like this, it will never happen. The drama in the world will never end, but I say everyone… Any country should be allowed to go visa-free. The whole world should become one. I’m fine, but it’s not possible like that, is it?”Rumors that the singer already had a green card have periodically circulated online and Diljit’s tongue-in-cheek response played right into this recurring speculation.
Diljit Dosanjh thanks fans for watching ‘Satluj’
During the live session, Diljit expressed his gratitude to everyone who had watched the film despite its short window of online availability. He said, “I came live on Instagram to thank people for watching Satluj.”The ‘Soorma’ singer went on to explain the timing of the film’s silent release, adding, “What I was afraid actually happened. I thought the film would be withdrawn on Monday, but it happened earlier than expected. That’s why we didn’t promote the film. It was best to release the film (online) without any promotion. Today’s youth is about Sin Khagh. Jaswant Singh Khalra.“The actor also reaffirmed his bond with his home state, saying, “You can annoy me as much as you want. I’m with Punjab till the day I die.”Diljit said he was relieved that audiences had managed to watch the film before its removal and encouraged those who had already downloaded it to give it a go. He said:“But I am happy and relieved that the film has finally reached the public. Many people have already downloaded it. Once anything goes online, it is never deleted. I saw a video from Rajasthan where people are watching the movie; I felt very happy. Please show it to your friends and everyone around you.”
Diljit Dosanjh reflects on the subject of the film
Talking about the story behind ‘Satluj’, Diljit Dosanjh explained that the film is based on one of the darkest chapters of Punjab in the 1990s, when civilians were allegedly disappeared and cremated without their families being informed. He said: “The incident happened in 1995 and then they didn’t let people talk about it. It’s happening even today. Hadd ho gayi! (This is too much!) I’m a bit sad. We’re still there, this is 2026.“Diljit also talked about the years-long struggle to bring the film to the audience, revealing, “Our shooting was stopped for 10-15 years. It took us 1.5 years to start the film. After editing, the film was stuck for four years. I spent two years with the film; Honey paaji gave the film six years.”
Why was ‘Satluj’ removed from ZEE5?
Originally titled “Punjab 95”, the film was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in 2022, but did not receive a clearance certificate. The filmmakers had earlier claimed that the CBFC had asked for as many as 127 cuts. The film was also scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, but that screening was reportedly canceled after Indian authorities raised objections. On July 3, ‘Satluj’ was released silently on ZEE5 without any promotional campaign. Despite receiving positive responses from critics and viewers, the film was pulled from the platform in just two days.In a statement issued after the pull, the OTT platform said it continues to maintain the film. Without revealing the specific reason for the decision, the streamer stated that “in light of current developments,” the film is currently unavailable for streaming.
