Ayesha Khan, who features in ‘Dhurandhar’ and had earlier spoken out in support of the ongoing Jantar Mantar protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party and other youth across the country, took to her Instagram account to share that she was arrested by the Bombay Police on July 22 for allegedly just “being on the road.”
Ayesha Khan shares a video from inside the police van
The actress posted a video of herself sitting in a police van, saying: “My hands are shaking right now. I was pulled over in a police van for standing quietly on the road. I didn’t say a word. I didn’t even start the protest. I was just standing because my brother and my friends were arrested.”
He then panned the camera to show how many others had been arrested by the Mumbai police and said: “Everyone is in the van without any explanation. Koi replies nahi hai kisike pass. Mene toh kuch bola hello. I was just standing on the road and I got pulled and shoved by 4-5 women, left, right, center, just to stand on the road.”
Ayesha Khan questions the lack of accountability
In another story, she posted photos of police officers along with the caption: “She’s been pulled over for being quiet on the road. #AccountabilityWhere?”. In a separate video, a background voice (probably Ayesha’s) can be heard asking the police where they were being taken, but the police refrained from giving an answer. Sharing this post, Ayesha captioned it, “No answers!! God knows where we are going?”.
Ayesha Khan resists as the police push her into the van
Another video captures several police officers pushing Ayesha into the van as she continues to resist. Sharing the same footage from a different angle in another story, Ayesha wrote, “Unfortunately, it took 4 cops to pull me over. But I’m asking the same question again, why? Did I make noise? I even started a conversation? I was pulled over for what? For being on the road? I wasn’t even in the group of 5!”.
“We’re so lost in the glamour”
Earlier, Ayesha had appealed to popular paparazzi accounts and media pages to shed more light on the ongoing CJP protest in Delhi. “…It’s so unfortunate that I had no idea either. We get so lost in the glamour, the beauty and the controversies that we often end up avoiding the things that really need our attention,” he said.
