Having led a successful career over the past two decades, the actress recently sat down to look back on her time in film, while reminiscing about her partner, Dharmendraand how it felt to receive the Padma Bhushan award in his name from the President of India.
Hema Malini talks about accepting Padma Bhushan for Dharmendra
While talking to HT City, the actress got emotional and recalled how it felt to walk on stage and receive the Padma Bhushan on behalf of her husband. She shared that the whole experience was quite emotional for her; however, she was still very grateful for everything.She shared, “It was an emotional moment, but an exciting one for me. His seven decades of work were recognised. That I was able to go on stage and receive him was the biggest moment. As I was walking towards Rashtrapati ji to receive him, I could feel him behind me, pulling me closer, saying ‘he’s going to get him’.” he wanted all his family members to be together happily no matter what.“He would say ‘I’m fond of my family’, hamesha united rehne ko bolte the,” she shared, adding that, “He loved all his children, his grandchildren in that house, my house. He enjoyed his life and lived it to the fullest. He achieved those things that normal human beings don’t achieve, and he became what he wanted from the beginning, from Mumbai to a small town. He achieved so much. Today, the whole country loves him, so many in the world do, and this person loved me. You can understand how proud I am.”
Hema Malini recalls her film career
Hema Malini’s career began in the 1960s with her appearances in regional cinema. However, he gradually started getting more popular films and slowly became one of the household names in Bollywood. With a career spanning six decades, the actress has done a lot of work. While speaking during the interview, the actress opened up about her past as an actress and how everything has been for her.He shared, “The 70s and 80s were the best period of my life – I did the most films then, with the directors who used me so beautifully. Those memories will always stay with me. But life goes on, you settle down, the family comes.” Recounting her days as an artiste, the actress also revealed that after doing ‘Baghban’ in 2003, she gradually moved into politics.Hema Malini is all set to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee on July 10 with a concert dedicated to her late husband Dharmendra. She shared that originally, a book was going to be published about her to mark the occasion and that Dharmendra was one of the few people who knew about it.
